Ull ros beans

    The ull ros bean is a typical legume from the Empordà, which has been grown since ancient times. It is planted around Saint Pons’s day (11 May) and is harvested by hand. Around August, the fresh beans, known as esclovellars, are cooked, and from around September the dried beans can be eaten. They are usually eaten dried but are delicious eaten fresh. The traditional dish is ull ros beans served with botifarra de perol sausage.

    CHARACTERISTICS OF THE PRODUCT

    They are small with a subtle flavour and a thin skin that allows for easy cooking. They have a yellowish colour with a brown mark in the middle. They are small and have a slightly hooked shape.

    ORIGIN OF THE PRODUCT
    Grown and packaged exclusively in the Empordà.

    PACKAGING
    The dried beans are mainly sold in 500 gram of 1 kilogram packets. The cooked beans are mainly sold in 750 gram packs.

    STORAGE
    They should be stored in a dry, dark place at ambient temperature.
