Honey of the Empordà

  • bol de mel amb un rajolí que cau de mel

Honey is understood as the sweet natural substance produced by the Apis mellifera bee from the nectar of plants, from the secretions from the living parts of plants, or the excretions of sucking insects present in the living parts of plants, which the bees collect and transform by combining it with their own specific substances and deposit, dehydrate, store and leave it in hives to mature. Each farmhouse in the Empordà used to have 2 or 3 beehives to produce candle wax and honey for their own consumption.
