Geographic location
The Baix Empordà is in the province of Girona, in the north-east of Catalonia, bordering the Alt Empordà, Gironès and Selva regions. You can easily get here by the main means of transport (road, train and plane), as it has an excellent position and very accessible transport links.
How to get there by train?
The Baix Empordà region does not have direct connections to the rail network but it has very good road links to various stations very close to the destination.
To get here by train, you can use the stations at Girona (33 km from la Bisbal), Flaçà (13 km from la Bisbal), Figueres-Vilafant (42 km from la Bisbal) and Caldes de Malavella (20 km from Santa Cristina d’Aro). You can check timetables, train routes and prices at the website www.renfe.com. There is also a scheduled bus service from all of these stations, with different routes that link to the main centres of population in the Baix Empordà. These bus routes are operated by the Sarfa – Moventis (www.compras.moventis.es) and Teisa (www.teisa-bus.com) companies.
Another option if you come here by train, is to drive on the main roads connecting these stations to the Baix Empordà. In this case, we recommend consulting the getting here by road section.
How to get there by road?
From Barcelona, you can reach the Baix Empordà on the AP-7 motorway, heading towards Girona/France. After leaving the motorway at exit 9A-9B (Vidreres/Lloret de Mar), head towards Sant Feliu de Guíxols and Platja d’Aro on the C-35 road as far as the junction with the C-65 and then continue along the C-31. Another option from Barcelona is to take the C-32 or N-II, towards Girona/France, and then take the C-35, towards Sant Feliu de Guíxols and Platja d’Aro.
If you are coming from the French border, you can take the N-II towards Figueres and, straight away, continue on the C-31 towards Torroella de Montgrí. If you come on the AP-7 motorway towards Barcelona/Girona, you have to take exit 3, heading for Figueres/Roses and then take the C-31. You can also take exit 6 (Girona Nord) and head towards Palamós on the C-66.
From Girona, you can get to the Baix Empordà on the C-65, heading towards Sant Feliu de Guíxols, until you reach the C-31. One option is to follow the N-II towards Figueres and then take the C-66 towards Girona Nord/Banyoles/Palamós. Next, head for Celrà/Palamós.
How to get there by plane?
The closest airports to the Baix Empordà are Girona–Costa Brava (43 km) and Barcelona–El Prat Josep Tarradellas (148 km).
Once in Girona, you can get to the Baix Empordà by road by car or on the scheduled bus services that connect with the main towns in the Baix Empordà.
