This north wind brings cold weather. It is sometimes strong but it has an impressive ability to carry clouds away and clear the sky. This is a spectacle worth seeing.<\/p>\n<p>When this wind blows through the region, it modifies the calm of the landscape and often also changes the sea.\u00a0 The direction of this wind, blowing away from the coast, can make some sea activities unadvisable.<\/p>\n<p>However, when the <em>tramuntana<\/em> blows on a sunny day, some beaches and coves are more sheltered and so are a good option for visitors to carry on enjoying the sun and the beach.<\/p>\n<p>Some quieter spaces include: Platja de Sa Conca (Platja d\u2019Aro), Platja de Castell (Palam\u00f3s), Platja de Portbo (Calella de Palafrugell), Platja de Llafranc, Platja de Tamariu and Platja Fonda and Cala d\u2019Aiguafreda (Begur).<\/p>\n<p>On the other hand, the <em>garb\u00ed<\/em> is a humid south-west wind, which often appears on summer afternoons and is much appreciated by people who enjoy sailing, especially competitive sailing.<\/p>\n<p>In the case of the <em>garb\u00ed<\/em>, quieter beaches include Platja de Ses Torretes (Sant Antoni de Calonge), Platja de la Fosca (Palam\u00f3s), Cala del Golfet (Calella de Palafrugell) and Cala de Sa Riera and Platja del Rac\u00f3 (Begur).<\/p>\n<p>Other less frequent winds are the <em>gregal <\/em>and <em>llevant <\/em>from the north-east and east that whip-up the sea, especially in the spring and autumn.<\/p>\n<p>The <em>llevant<\/em>, which is generally accompanied by rain, is especially strong. Watching the crashing of the waves caused by a <em>llevant<\/em> storm can be spectacular, but it is important to take care and not get too close to the sea.
