Sant Feliu de Guíxols
Sant Feliu de Guíxols

Sant Feliu de Guíxols is the southernmost coastal town of our district, lying close to the border with the district of La Selva.

Now with 21,961 inhabitants, the town has developed in an orderly fashion around the bay lying between the Sant Elm mountain to the south and the Molí de les Forques hill. It originally developed around the splendid Benedictine monastery, documented since the 10th C., a very well-conserved Romanesque building notable for its Torre del Fum and Torre del Corn towers and the Porta Ferrada.

Its history has bequeathed to us modernist and colonial architecture –the indianos’ houses –, its seafront promenade, the Sant Elm Baths, and the Casino dels Nois social centre, among others. Nowadays it is an important town which has oriented its economy towards trade and tourism. The town’s harbour activity remains commercially active and still has an important fishing fleet.

From the town, you can visit the seaside district of Sant Pol and the coast to the south, which includes a multitude of beautiful, peaceful coves which form part of the Cadiretes Massif. On a rocky promontory overlooking the sea there rises the sanctuary of Sant Elm, giving an extensive view of the area. Another point of interest is the Pedralta, where nature has formed a curious structure with a large, rocking block of stone.

The narrow-gauge railway line that used to link the town with the city of Girona has been turned into a peaceful n, connecting the provincial capital with the Baix Empordà cycle tourism network.

With its wide range of cultural, historical and sports activities, Sant Feliu offers you all kinds of services and entertainments to ensure that you enjoy your holiday to the full. Among the large number of cultural and leisure events held in the town, one of the most prominent is the Porta Ferrada International Music Festival.
