Forallac
Peratallada

Forallac, with a surface area of 50.63 km2 and 1,721 inhabitants, stands between the River Daró and the Gavarres hills, and consists of the nuclei of Fonteta, Peratallada, Vulpellac, Canapost, Fitor, Santa Susanna de Peralta and Sant Climent de Peralta.

The village of Fonteta, situated in the foothills of the Gavarres, has a number of splendid houses from the 16th to 18th centuries surrounding the church. Fonteta is an ideal place for starting the itineraries into the woods and hills of the Gavarres Protected Area and for discovering the interesting architectural and ethnological features that formerly gave the place considerable vitality – the Romanesque church of Santa Coloma in Fitor, large farmhouses, ice pits, fountains, and so on – or for following the paths that lead to megalithic tombs conserved here for many centuries.

Descending to the plain, we find the small nuclei of Sant Climent de Peralta and Santa Susanna de Peralta, where time seems to have stood still. Do not miss their annual festivities of reaping and threshing and coalmaking, trades which have now disappeared.

Vulpellac has a magnificent 13th-16th century castle. The church that backs onto it was formerly its chapel. Nearby is the village of Canapost, with its splendid Romanesque church of Sant Esteve. In a hidden corner of the municipality you can visit the surprising Clots de Sant Julià, a group of curious quarries that were worked in past times.

Peratallada is another of the jewels of the municipality. This walled village has preserved its original medieval structure. In the interior, the castle, with its keep, and the Romanesque church of Sant Esteve dominate the streets and squares making up the village. The old centre is full of restaurants whose owners have taken advantage of the architectural beauty of the former noble houses to install their businesses. Peratallada holds interesting craft markets where you can taste and buy local products. In summer, concerts are held on the magnificent stage of the castle, in an unforgettable setting.
